Brendan Giddings, Niceville High School, Rodric Cabrera, and Ty Rounsaville, both from Fort Walton Beach High School, were recognized at the May 28th School Board meeting for winning FHSAA State Championships in Weightlifting.

Brendan Giddings, Niceville High School, Wins 2024 Florida High Athletic Association (FHSAA) 3A 154 Pound Weightlifting Olympic Division ChampionshipCoached by Sean Moorer and Romeo Finley, Brendan Giddings won the 2024 3A 154-pound Weightlifting Olympic Division FHSAA State Championship. Entering this school year, one of Brendan’s primary goals was to return to the State weightlifting meet and surpass his previous performance. In 2023, his inaugural year in weightlifting, Brendan reached the state competition but didn't secure a placement. Nonetheless, he remained steadfast in his pursuit, diligently attending practice every day and assisting others along the journey. With each passing week, his skills improved noticeably. When the district championships arrived, Brendan emerged as the district champion. Subsequently, at regionals, he claimed the regional title, setting his sights on the ultimate prize: becoming the state champion. With two weeks of focused preparation, Brendan trained tirelessly with a singular goal in mind: winning the state championship. Finally, on April 19, 2024, the day arrived. Armed with determination and the fruits of his labor, Brendan clinched the State Championship, achieving a total weight of 510 pounds. This marked a remarkable improvement from his previous year's total of 395 pounds, showcasing a gain of 115 pounds within a year and culminating in a well-deserved victory—a testament to Brendan's unwavering dedication and hard work. Rodric Cabrera, FWBHS, Wins 2024 FHSAA 2A 199 Pound Weightlifting Traditional Division Championships
