Over 100 Okaloosa County Students Participate in Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical and Poster Contests

Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical and Poster Contests First Place Winners

Over 100 Okaloosa County students participated in this year’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical and Poster Contests. Every participant received a medallion; and all First, Second, and Third place winners in each category received a trophy and were VIP Guests at Lonnie Johnson’s presentation at the Northwest Florida State College held on Friday, January 18 at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center. Johnson is the inventor of the Super Soaker. 

1st Place winners in the Oratorical and Poster contest also received:

  • Trophies
  • Monetary awards
  • Opportunity to showcase their winning speech and display their winning poster at the Martin Luther King Memorial Program held on Sunday, January 20 at Beulah Baptist Church
  • Opportunity to ride in the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade held on January 21, 2019

Additionally, the first place winner in the high school Oratorical contest was the MC for the Martin Luther King Memorial program held at the Beulah Baptist Church on January 20, 2019.

This year’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical and Poster Contest was sponsored by the Sigma Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. The school district contacts for the Martin Luther King Contests were Cheryl Seals and Laurren Seegars.
